azithromycin
Azithromycin is an antibiotic that treats particular bacterial infections and are very effective when used to treat traveller’s diarrhoea and sickness. If you are going abroad, you might like to order Azithromycin to take with you, in case you fall ill and need treatment whilst you are away. This is common condition for those travelling to a range of different countries, especially parts of Africa, South East Asia, Pakistan and India.
Azithromycin is a first line antibiotic treatment for travellers diarrhoea commonly caused by bacterial infections. It acts to combat the bacteria triggering your symptoms, reducing your recovery time.

When taken with other remedies recommended by our Click Doctors such as Loperamide and Dioralyte, it aids water reabsorption and rehydration of the body, which is key to recovery. If you want to purchase our Travellers’ Diarrhoea Rescue Pack, you select this option at checkout.
Azithromycin is the preferred antibiotic of treatment of travellers’ diarrhoea in South Asia (India, Pakistan), East Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam etc). In other parts of the world, alternatively antibiotics are preferred.
Take one tablet a day for 3 days. Continue the course until it is complete unless advised otherwise by a doctor. Start taking immediately once symptoms of travellers’ diarrhoea occurs. These include diarrhoea, sickness, nausea and stomach cramps
Like any medicine that is taken, Azithromycin can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. This includes decreased appetite, diarrhoea, dizziness, stomach pains, headaches, impaired hearing, sleeping difficulties, change in taste, or nausea and vomiting.

Much rare side effects include heart arrhythmia, chest pain, allergic responses (swelling of lips, difficulty breathing, feeling faint or dizziness). If you develop any of the following symptoms, you must stop taking the medicine and seek emergency medical attention immediately.
Azithromycin should not be taken if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of its ingredients, Erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotics or soya lecithin.

It will only be given to you when pregnant or breast feeding and no other alternative is suitable. Speak to your GP for further advise on a suitable alternative.
