cerelle
Cerelle is a progestogen-only pill that contains the hormone Desogestrel. It works by thickening the mucus in the neck of the womb. This makes it harder for sperm to penetrate the womb and reach an egg, and thus fertilize it.

It also stops ovulation in 97% of menstrual cycles. The means that you won't release an egg in 97 cycles out of 100.
Cerelle is more than 99% effective. This means that less than 1 in 100 women who use the progestogen-only pill for contraception will get pregnant in one year.
Take one daily, at around the same time of day. The Click Health pharmacist advises women to take the tablet at a suitable time, so that they won’t forget, e.g. with breakfast.

If a tablet is delayed or missed, you must ensure that the tablets is no later than 12 hours from its usual dose time. If you exceed that 12 hour time frame, you will not be protected, and we advise taking 7-days extra protection until you are protected again.
If you vomit, within two hours of taking a Cerelle tablet, take another one.
Cerelle is generally well tolerated and side effects are rare. Some side effects can include:
• acne
• breast tenderness and breast enlargement
• an increased or decreased sex drive
• mood changes
• headache and migraine
• nausea or vomiting
• small fluid-filled sacs called cysts on your ovaries – these are usually harmless and disappear without treatment
• stomach upset
• weight gain
These side effects are most likely to occur during the first few months of taking Cerelle, but they generally improve over time and should stop within a few months.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. It is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Cerelle is not suitable:
