ellaOne 30mg (Emergency Contraception)

After unprotected sex, sperm is waiting to fertilise an egg released by the ovary. ellaOne contains ulipristal acetate and works by preventing or delaying an egg from being released from the ovary depending on which stage of the menstrual cycle you are at.

Recent study has shown that ellaOne is 98-99% effective when taken by women after unprotected sex. If you have unprotected sex after taking ellaOne, it will not stop you from becoming pregnant. Therefore, until your next period comes you should use a condom during every sexual encounter.

One ellaOne tablet should be taken with or after food. If you vomit within 3 hours of taking the tablet, you will need to take another as soon as possible since your body has not digested it.

ellaOne only protects you from becoming pregnant, and not sexually transmitted infections. If you have unprotected sex you may be at risk of having an STI.
