Gedarel 30
Commonly known as “the pill”, the combined oral contraceptives pill contains artificial versions of the female hormones oestrogen and progesterone.
Gedarel 30 helps prevent pregnancy by stopping the ovaries from releasing an egg each month, thickening the mucus at the neck of the womb to stop sperm reaching the egg, and thinning the womb’s lining so that a fertilised egg is less likely to implant in the womb and grow.
If taken correctly, Gedarel 30 is over 99% effective. While it is still possible to become pregnant while you are taking oral contraception, it is highly unlikely, particularly if you use additional protection such as condoms.
In addition to its primary purpose of preventing pregnancy, Gedarel 30 has some other benefits, which are alternative reasons to being prescribed it:
- Reduced flow while on your period
- Getting rid of painful cramps
- Reduced hormone-induced acne
- Aids in treating or preventing polycystic ovary syndrome.
Gedarel 30 can cause changes to your body when first taking it. The side effects commonly experienced include:
- Spotting
- Adjustment bleeding
- Nausea
- Breast tenderness
- Turbulent emotions

Most or all of these symptoms typically stop within the first few months. In some cases, symptoms may persist for longer period of time and if they become inconvenient, you can consider an alternative type of pill, which may be more suited to you.
Although the birth control pill is typically safe and most take it without any problems, it can slightly increase the risk of health problems.

Complications are rare but like most medicines, some can be serious. These include blood clots, stroke, heart attacks and tumours.
If you develop any of the following, seek medical attention urgently:
- Chest pain
- Sudden back, neck or jaw pain with or without breathlessness or nausea
- Sudden severe headache
- Severe stomach pains
- Achy or swollen legs
- Yellowing of skin or eyes
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. It is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Gedarel 30 is not suitable:
  • If you are allergic to its active ingredient or any other of its ingredients.
For full information on how to take, side effects and precautions, it is important that you carefully read the patient information leaflet.
