Levonelle 1500mcg (Emergency Contraception)
Levonelle One Step contains a synthetic hormone-like substance called Levonorgestrel that works by stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulation). It also increases the thickness of the mucus around the cervix, which helps create a barrier that is difficult for sperm to pass through.
Levonelle One Step is proven to be effective at preventing pregnancy for up to 3 days after unprotected sex. However, it is more likely to be effective the earlier you take it with its effectiveness decreasing after 12 hours.
One tablet of Levonelle One Step is taken with or after food. If you vomit within 3 hours of swallowing, you will need to take another tablet otherwise it will not be effective in preventing a potential pregnancy.
Like any medicine that is taken, Levonelle can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. These include headaches, nausea and vomiting, tender breasts and lethargy (feeling tired and fatigued).
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. It is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.
