Malarone 250mgper100mg
Malarone is an antiprotozoal and antimalarial drug used to treat or prevent malaria caused by mosquito bites in countries where malaria is common.
Malarone contains two active ingredients, Atovaquone and Proguanil. Both of these ingredients work together to halt the life of the malaria parasite and lead to its death.
A study has shown Malarone to have a protective efficacy of 95.8%. This can be further enhanced by taking extra precautions with mosquito bites such as using insect repellent.
You must take Malarone 1-2 days before travelling to malaria-risk areas. This ensures protection before travelling. It should be continued daily during travel to malaria-risk areas and for 7 days after leaving the area. If you vomit the tablets out within 2 hours, you must take another one.
Like any medicine that is taken, Malarone can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. This includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pains and headaches.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. For this reason, it is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Malarone is not suitable
  • If you are allergic to the active ingredient or any other of its ingredients.
  • For preventing malaria, if you have severe kidney disease.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
For full information on how to take, side effects and precautions, it is important that you carefully read the patient information leaflet.
