norgeston
Norgeston is a form of progesterone-only "mini pill" that contains the active ingredient Levonorgestrel and works by thickening the mucus in the neck of the womb. This makes it harder for sperm to penetrate the womb and reach an egg and thus fertilize it.
Norgeston is more than 99% effective. This means that less than 1 in 100 women who use the progestogen-only pill for contraception will get pregnant in one year.
Take one daily, take the tablet at around the same time. The Click Health Pharmacist advises women to take the tablet at a suitable time, so that they won’t forget, e.g. with breakfast.
If you forget to take a pill or miss a pill, you must ensure that this is no more than 3 hours late from its usual time to be taken. If you are more than 3 hours late to take the pill, you will not be protected, and we advise taking 7-days extra protection until you are protected again.
If you vomit, within two hours of taking a Norgeston tablet, take another one.
Norgeston is generally well tolerated and side effects are rare. Some side effects can include:
• acne
• breast tenderness and breast enlargement
• an increased or decreased sex drive
• mood changes
• headache and migraine
• nausea or vomiting
• small fluid-filled sacs called cysts on your ovaries – these are usually harmless and disappear without treatment
• stomach upset
• weight gain
These side effects are most likely to occur during the first few months of taking Norgeston, but they generally improve over time and should stop within a few months.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. It is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Norgeston is not suitable:
  • If you are allergic to its active ingredient or any other of its ingredients.
For full information on how to take, side effects and precautions, it is important that you carefully read the patient information leaflet.
