Priligy is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) containing the active ingredient Dapoxetine. It is only licensed in men between the ages of 18 and 64 who have experienced PE for at least 6 months.
Priligy works by altering the action and levels of a chemical in the brain known as serotonin. An increase in this chemical delays ejaculation which means that it takes longer to reach orgasm.
The majority of men will experience an increase in the time between getting an erection and ejaculation. Priligy has shown to work, in around 8 out of 10 men. These men should notice a doubling or tripling in the time their erection lasts before ejaculation.
Priligy is not a cure for premature ejaculation and only works when you take it.
One tablet should be taken 1 to 3 hours before sex, with or without food. It works best during the 1-3 hours after it is taken, but can sometimes retain its effects for up to 12 hours.

You should not consume any alcohol when using Priligy. Never take more than one tablet within a 24 hour period.
Like any medicine that is taken, Priligy can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. These include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhoea and fainting.  If you feel faint or dizzy after taking Priligy then you should not drive, operate heavy machinery or undertake hazardous activities.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medication. It is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Priligy is not suitable:
  • In men with heart disease, issues with blood clotting or tendency to faint
  • If you use any recreational drugs as this could lead to you experiencing serious side effects.
  • If taken with alcohol, as it may increase the sedative effects of the alcohol. It may also increase the risk of fainting.
  • With grapefruit juice, since it can increase the amount of Priligy in your bloodstream and make side effects more likely.
Take care if you are a driver. If you feel faint or dizzy, do not drive and do not use tools or machines.

For full information on how to take, side effects and precautions, it is important that you carefully read the patient information leaflet.

Note: Our Click Doctors advise to consider using Priligy, if Emla cream is not sufficient as first line treatment. Otherwise, you may wish to use both Emla cream and Priligy at the same time to increase the effectiveness.
