Doxycycline 100mg
Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat several different types of bacterial infection. Doxycycline belongs to the tetracycline class and is effective in treating chlamydia.
Doxycycline targets the bacteria that is causing the chlamydia infection, killing it in action but does not prevent you from catching it again.
If taken correctly, Doxycycline helps to completely get rid of a bacterial infection like chlamydia in 95% of the cases. To make sure that Doxycycline will work properly, it’s important that you complete the treatment by taking every single dose on time.
Doxycycline 100mg capsules must be taken twice a day for 7 days. The capsules must be swallowed with plenty of water, in the morning and in the evening, and is best taken with or after food. You should sit upright for at least 30-60 minutes after taking each capsule so is best taken at least one hour before you go to bed.

During your chlamydia treatment, you are advised to avoid vaginal, oral, and anal sex, even with a condom. The same is true for your partner. This will ensure you don’t pass the infection to other people or catch it again while you are recovering.
Like any medicine that is taken, Doxycyline can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. These include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, headaches and vaginal thrush. It can also cause increased sensitivity to light resulting in exaggerated sunburn reaction. It is advised to stay out of the sun or use sun block to reduce the risk of photosensitive reactions.

In rare incidences, it may cause bruising or bleeding, diarrhoea containing mucus or blood, pale poo with dark urine and/or yellowing of the skin, joint or muscle pain, ringing noise in ears, and difficulty or pain in swallowing. If so, you must seek medical attention immediately.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. For this reason, it is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Do not take Doxycycline:
  • If you are allergic to its active ingredient or any other of its ingredients.
  • If there is a chance of pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding
  • If you have symptoms (attend your local sexual health clinic)
  • While drinking alcohol
