Erectile Dysfunction

ED is a very common condition particularly in men over the age of 40 although it can affect anyone at any age. It is thought to affect 10% of men for every decade of life.

ED occurs due to:

1. Physical causes such as diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, which with time narrow the blood vessels supplying blood to the penis, or
2. Psychological causes such as stress, anxiety, depression and/ or relationship problems.

Sildenafil (or brand Viagra)

One of the traditional and most popular treatments. The “blue pill” is great if one prefers to get a hard enough erection for shortest time possible as it only typically lasts for 4-6 hours. Ideally it should be taken on an empty stomach for it to work to its maximum potential and without delay.

The blue pill typically works in more than 80% of men.

Tadalafil (or brand Cialis)

Another popular treatment option that is preferred by many who wish to be able to get a hard erection for a longer period of time of up to 36 hours. Hence why it is referred to as a “weekender pill”. It also may take a slightly shorter time to work than any other ED treatments of within 20-30 minutes of taking. This is one of a few ED treatment options that are not affected by a meal so can be taken at any time.

Smaller doses of 2.5mg and 5mg exist which can be taken daily in the morning for those wanting to “get it up” spontaneously as and when needed, without any time commitments.
