Imigran nasal spray treats contains the active ingredient Sumatriptan which is used to treat migraine headaches. These are caused by a temporary widening of blood vessels in the head. Migraines can be uncomfortable and painful for the sufferer, and they tend to be much worse than a normal headache.
The active ingredient Sumatriptan works by reducing the widening of blood vessels, relieving the symptoms of migraine. It should be sprayed into the nostrils as soon as you notice the first symptoms of your migraine, or at any point during the attack. It cannot be used beforehand or to prevent an attack.
Each Imigran Nasal Spray contains one single dose of the medicine. If you do not respond to the first dose of Imigran Nasal Spray, a second dose should not be used for the same attack. If you have responded to the first dose but the symptoms come back, a second dose may be used, provided that you wait at least 2 hours between the two doses.

The application of Imigran Nasal Spray is as follows:
- Blow your nose properly before use if it feels blocked
- Hold the nasal spray with your index and middle fingers each side on the nozzle and your thumb resting on the blue plunger.
- Insert the nozzle into one nostril (about 1cm) and block the other using a finger by pressing firmly on the side of your nose.
- As you breath in, press the blue plunger firmly with your thumb and keep breathing in whilst it is spraying.
- Remove the spray and unblock your other nostril.
- Keep breathing in gently through your nose and out through your mouth for 10 seconds.
- Once finished, remove the spray from your nostril and dispose of it.
Like any medicine that is taken, Imigran Nasal Spray can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. These include unpleasant taste in mouth, burning sensation in the nose, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting or shortness of breath.
