What is Ezinelle?

Ezinelle is an emergency contraceptive that can be used within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex or if your usual contraceptive method has failed. It is not recommended for use in children. If you are under 16, you must visit your doctor or family planning clinic to get the emergency contraception.

How does it work?

Ezinelle contains a synthetic hormone-like substance called Levonorgestrel. It works by stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg and preventing sperm from fertilising any egg you may have already released.

How effective is it?

Ezinelle is proven to be effective at preventing pregnancy for up to 3 days after unprotected sex. It prevents about 95% of unwanted pregnancies when you take it within 24 hours of having unprotected sex. It will not prevent a pregnancy every time and is more effective if you take it as soon as possible after unprotected sex.

How do I take it?

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the patient leaflet. It is important you contact our Click Pharmacy team or your GP if you are unsure.

Swallow one Ezinelle tablet whole with water. If you vomit within 3 hours of swallowing, you will need to take another tablet otherwise, it will not be effective in preventing a potential pregnancy.

What side effects may I experience?

Like any medicine that is taken, Ezinelle can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. These include headaches, lower abdominal pain, nausea (feeling sick), tender breasts and lethargy (feeling tired and fatigued) or irregular bleeding until your next period.
