To treat a current infection of genital herpes, one 400mg tablet should be taken three times a day for five days. For treatment and suppression therapy of future infections, one 400mg tablet two times a day for 3 months and on some occasions 12 months is recommended.
Like any medicine that is taken, Aciclovir can potentially cause side effects or have no side effects at all. Side effects are uncommon and for those who experience it, they are generally mild and pass rapidly. These may include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes or tiredness.
