Travellers' diarrhoea is the passing of 3 or more loose, unformed stools in a 24 hour period when abroad. It is often accompanied by at least one of the following symptoms: fever, nausea, vomiting, cramps or bloody stool.
It is common when travelling abroad, particularly to area with poor standards of hygiene to develop severe diarrhoea. This is commonly due to water contamination in which our body has not built immunity to.
Our Click Doctor online consultation offers some antibiotics called Azithromycin that can be taken to help treat the commonest causable infection. We also offer a Travellers’ Diarrhoea Rescue Pack, which contains a course of this antibiotic, in addition to some Paracetamol for cramps or fever, ORS hydration tablets to help restore hydration, and Loperamide to slow down the diarrhoea. This pack helps to both treat and rapidly restore normal bowel motion.
