Nasonex Nasal Spray contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate. It is an anti-inflammatory steroid medicine used to ease symptoms of allergic rhinitis occurring with hay fever where inside of the nose is inflamed. This causes cold-like symptoms
Nasonex acts an anti-inflammatory medicine. It helps reduce inflammation of the nose that occurs during allergic rhinitis that causes swelling, sneezing, itchiness and a blocked, runny nose. This may be all year around in the case of house dust mite, animal hair or certain foods.
Nasonex is an effective treatment of allergic rhinitis and helps with controlling the unpleasant symptoms associated with it. The effects of the medication should be noticed in around 2 days after starting with its full effects expected within 2 weeks.
We recommend you to start using it early if you anticipate seasonal allergy in the summer from pollen.
The usual dose is one or two sprays into each nostril once a day.

Its application is as follows:

(1) Gently blow your nose
(2) Shake the spray gently and remove the cap. Spray the Nasonex into the air until it forms a fine mist.
(3) Slightly tilt your head forward at an angle and slowly exhale. Hold the spray upright with your thumb under the bottom of the bottle, and your first and second fingers around your nozzle.
(4) Close your other nostril with your free hand and slowly breathe in through your nose while you squeeze the pump once.
(5) Remove the nozzle from your nostril and start to breathe out through your mouth.
(6) Repeat in the other nostril and replace the cap once done
Like all medicines, taking Nasonex can cause potential side effects but these may not necessarily be experienced. Most people in fact do not have any problems after using the nasal spray. Side effects though do include headaches, sneezing, nose bleeds, sore nose or throat, or ulcers in the nose.
Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions or on particular medicines. For this reason, it is very important you declare your full medical history to our Click Doctors via our online consultations so that a proper judgement can be made on its safety.

Do not use Nasonex:
  • If you are allergic to its active ingredient or any of its other ingredients
  • If you have an untreated infection in your nose (e.g. herpes)
  • If you have had recent surgery on your nose or have injured it
  • If you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction to include a skin rash that may be itchy, red, swollen or peeling skins, wheeziness, chest tightness, trouble with breathing or swelling of mouth, lips, face tongue or throat, you must go to your nearest A&E or call 999 immediately.
